Phinney Ridge

Phinney Ridge is a beloved Seattle neighborhood perched just north of Fremont and bordering Green Lake and Ballard. Originally developed in the early 1900s, it was built around the Woodland Park Zoo and has retained its charming, residential feel ever since. The neighborhood is known for its classic craftsman homes, walkable streets, and strong sense of community. Locals love the small-town vibe, with an active neighborhood association, cozy coffee shops, and locally-owned spots like Phinney Books and the Phinney Market Pub. What really sets Phinney Ridge apart is its elevation—many homes boast incredible views of the Olympics and Puget Sound—and its balance of peaceful living with easy access to both nature and city life. It’s a neighborhood where you can grab a pastry, walk to the zoo, and still be downtown in 15 minutes.

Why You'll LOVE it:

Why You'll HATE it:

Reason 1

Views: West-facing homes often get killer sunset and mountain views.

Reason 1

Limited Inventory: It’s a highly desired area, so homes don’t come up often and can get competitive.

Reason 2

Walkable & Livable: Tons of coffee shops, local boutiques, bakeries, and restaurants along Phinney Ave—very walkable.

Reason 2

Pricey: Home prices are on the higher end for North Seattle—especially for updated single-family homes.

Reason 3

Great Schools Nearby: Well-rated public and private schools, plus close proximity to Woodland Park Zoo for family outings.

Reason 3

Not Great for Big Yards: Lots tend to be smaller, so if outdoor space is a big priority, it might be limiting.

Reason 4

Close to the WoodLand Park Zoo & Green Lake: Easy access to Green Lake for recreation, and the Zoo which is open every day of the year except Christmas Day!

Reason 4

Less Transit-Friendly: While there are buses, it’s not as convenient for commuters compared to neighborhoods like Fremont or Capitol Hill.

Reason 5

Community Events: Phinney Farmers Market, neighborhood garage sales, and local art walks add to the charm.

Reason 5

I don’t have a reason 5 😉
